About Paul (from paulfor62.com):

Who is this guy?

Whenever I hear about a new political candidate, my first reaction is usually along the lines of, “I’ve never heard of him.  Who is he?”  The short answer is, I’m nobody special.  I’m just someone who doesn’t like how government is going down in Springfield, and I want to lend a hand to help.

My name is Paul Mitchell, I was born in July of 1962, to Robert & Mary Mitchell.  My father was a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at the time at Lincoln AFB in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He spent most of his career, both in the military and after his retirement, as an aircraft mechanic.  My mother later became a registered nurse.  Before my first birthday, the family moved to Galesburg, Illinois, between Peoria and the Quad Cities.

I remember in the first grade, in 1968, our Weekly Reader featured on its cover the candidates for president.  At recess, the kids picked sides for games based on whether they supported the Republican or Democratic candidates.  I remember Jim, my best friend, said he was for the Democrat, so I said I was, too.  That night, I told my father that I was for the Democrat and he said, “Really?  I’m for the Republican.”  I’ve been a Republican ever since.

I developed my interest in politics after my brother assigned me a portion of his paper route; we delivered the Galesburg Register Mail.  I remember delivering newspapers that covered Vietnam and Watergate, and I’ve paid attention to politics and history ever since.

On the way home from visiting Dad in Galesburg this past Memorial Day weekend, I stopped off with my family and we visited the birthplace of Ronald Reagan in Tampico.  I turned 18 in 1980, and cast my first ballot for Ronald Reagan.  At the time, I had already committed to join the Air Force myself, and after basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas, I was sent to the Defense Language Institute to study Russian for 52 weeks, and was thereafter assigned as a Russian Linguist and signals intelligence analyst to the 6912th Electronic Security Group in West Berlin, where I served until late 1985. President Reagan is rightly honored for his success in winning the Cold War; I was on the front lines of the Cold War. I earned the Army of Occupation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Interpreting and Translating, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After the Air Force I moved to Texas and held jobs in real estate and banking but eventually became a fulltime college student at the University of Texas at Arlington, where I earned a BA in Economics with a minor in History.  I served in the Student Congress, was president of the campus chapter of the National Association of Business Economists, was a charter member of the Conservative Students’ Association, was admitted to Omicron Delta Epsilon, the Honor Society for Economics, to Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honor Society, and to the Gold Key National Honor Society.

For the last eleven years I’ve worked in the computer industry doing tech support and database development in FileMaker Pro, and it’s in this role that I was able to return to Illinois in 2002.  I’ve learned a great deal about how businesses run as I’ve helped people grow their businesses by helping them manage their data; this isn’t called “the information age” for nothing.

As a hobby, I blog about topics that interest me at Thoughts of a Regular Guy.

I am devoutly Roman Catholic, and I am the charter Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus council #14819.  I have been married for fourteen years to my wife Karie, and we have four beautiful children, Robert,  7, Mary, 5, John Paul, 3, and Michael, five months. My oldest son, Christopher, is 20 and lives in Texas.

About Dan (from proft2010.com):

Dan Proft, from Wheaton, Illinois, is a respected political commentator for WLS-AM 890 radio in Chicago, a contributor to Human Events, School Reform News, and other conservative publications, and a successful small business owner.  Dan is a regular guest on local and national public affairs shows where he has tackled a wide range of local, national and international public policy issues.

Dan has built a reputation for standing up to political bullies in Illinois from both parties whose policies have punished small business owners and families who play by the rules.

Dan has run numerous political campaigns and served in various leadership capacities in state and municipal government since 1994.  Dan’s breadth of experience in state and local government has given him a unique understanding of the way government operates at every level.  Dan knows the system and has been a conservative thought leader and outspoken voice of reform for 15 years.

Dan founded a number of successful public affairs and strategic communications firms and publications.  Beginning as a student at Northwestern University, Dan co-founded the Northwestern Chronicle, an independent campus newspaper still in existence today.  In 2002, Dan and some fellow conservatives launched IllinoisLeader.com, an online publication that covered Illinois Politics and government with original news content and commentary.  As a successful small business owner, Dan understands the hostile climate businesses face in Illinois, and he has been an outspoken advocate of business friendly policies in Illinois.

An Illinoisan all his life, Dan grew up in Wheaton, earned his B.A. from Northwestern University and his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  Among his civic pursuits, Dan serves as a Board member for the Illinois chapter of Operation Homefront, a non-profit whose mission is to provide assistance to active duty military families, particularly those with a spouse serving overseas.

Adoption and life issues are very close to Dan’s heart.  Dan has served on the Associate Board of The Cradle, an Evanston-based adoption agency.  He is also the volunteer spokesman for the Choose Life License Plate initiative, designed to fund adoption-service providers through the sale of specialty license plates in Illinois.  Dan is a member of the Seguin Services’ 2008-2009 capital campaign to support adults and children with disabilities.  Dan also coaches youth basketball in Cicero and Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.

9/12 Candidate: Bobby Schilling | U.S. Congress 17th District – IL

Posted by Jacob Roecker on August 8, 2009 under 9/12 Candidates | 2 Comments to Read

About Bobby (from bobby2010.com):

Robert “Bobby” Schilling is a family man and a business man. He was born and raised in Rock Island. Bobby has been married to Christie for 23 years and counting, and together they have nine children: Terry, 22; Aaron, 19; Levi, 16; Joe, 15; Isabel, 13; Rachel, 11; Olivia, 7; Sam, 3; Sophia, 1; and a granddaughter, Grace, 3.

Bobby graduated from Alleman High School and then attended Black Hawk College. Afterwards, Bobby worked at Container Corporation of America (McMillan Bloedel Containers). During his time there, 1983-1987, Bobby served as a union steward in Local 191 International Paper Workers Union. From 1987-1995, he went on to work in the insurance and financial services industry. Working for the largest insurance company in the United States, Prudential Insurance and Financial Services, he was ranked number 315 out of over 13,000 agents during his last full year with the company.

Twelve years ago Bobby decided to take a leap of faith and go into business for himself as a pizza restaurant owner/operator. Now Saint Giuseppe’s Heavenly Pizza in Moline has proven to be a great success. When Bobby and Christie looked at closing their restaurant on Sundays in order to spend more time with their family, people told them it wouldn’t survive. However, with faith and persistence, the business has not only sustained itself, but has grown.

To his credit, Bobby is not just a pizza guy – he has also made smart investments and has had a great deal of success in real estate. Financial stability is something that Bobby and his wife cherish. After all the ups and downs of running their own business and raising a large family, getting to a level where they are financially comfortable, they could not sit back and watch the fiscally irresponsible politicians carry on with business as usual. When looking at the direction our nation was headed, Bobby asked himself two important questions, If not me, whom?, and, If not now, when? Bobby sees a need for fiscal responsibility and a desire to leave the country a better place for his children and grandchildren.

Bobby and Christie are not only able, but they are willing to place their own lives on hold to go out and meet the people of the 17th Congressional District. For it is in these hard working families of the 17th that Bobby has seen the possibilities of young people and the bright futures that they have ahead of them. These young families see in Bobby, that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Is this going to be easy? No, Bobby is well aware of that. He loves a challenge or someone telling him that something is not possible or that it can’t be done. Time and time again Bobby has proven them wrong.

Robert Schilling is a man of integrity and of faith – not a politician but a statesman.

Message from Bobby:

I am not a politician. I am not running for Congress to further my own personal agenda and my own selfish desires, nor to get my family government jobs. I am running for Congress because as a father of nine, a local business owner, and a member of the community, I cannot sit back any longer waiting for someone to come forward who shares my values and views on our nations’ potential to be even greater. The time has come for the people of this district to vote not for any particular party, but rather to vote for the person. Those who already know me know that I am an honest and hard working man and now my job is to show the rest of those in the 17th who I am and what I am made of. The time has come to elect representatives of the people and for the people here in the 17th and throughout our nation. As Illinoisans we have had the great misfortune of seeing up close what corruption and pay to play politics gets the people. It is my desire to be a man of the people from every corner of the 17th District and I hope that you are willing to help me bring back the people’s wishes to Washington.

9/12 Candidate: Eric Wallace | U.S. Senate – IL

Posted by Jacob Roecker on under 9/12 Candidates | Be the First to Comment

Eric picture3About Eric (from wallaceforillinois.com):

Dr. Eric M. Wallace was born in Chicago, IL to Joan Scott (daughter of renowned artist William Edouard Scott) and John Wallace. He lived on Chicago’s south side until the third grade when his family moved to Wilmette IL. At that time the Wallaces were the only African American family in Wilmette. Eric spent his freshman year at New Trier East where he ran track.

The family moved to Northern Virginia where Eric graduated from Herndon High school. He later spent two years at Howard University in the District of Columbia where his parents were professors. Eric would leave Howard to attend Washington Bible College to study for the ministry. He later earned an M.A. from Alliance Theological Seminary, a Th.M. and PhD from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education (Union-PSCE). Eric holds the distinction of being the first African American to earn a PhD in Biblical studies from Union-PSCE.

While pursuing his education, Eric has worked in ministry for over 30 years. He is an ordained minister and has served as a Pastor, Youth Minister, Children’s Minister, and Christian Education consultant. He has served locally as an associate minister at the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, as well as Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson where he currently serves.

As an entrepreneur, Wallace has owned a number of businesses from a publishing company to a dance studio. He also brings with him a range of work experience, which includes serving as a police officer and as director of editorial for an (IL) based Christian publishing company. Dr. Wallace also served as an Army officer in the Maryland National Guard, and as an Adjunct Professor at North Park University and Elmhurst College.

Notably, Wallace’s publishing tenure has spanned well over 12 years. While president and CEO of Wallace Publishing and Computer Graphics he published the Lamb’s Book, a Christian business directory, and the New Life Journal, a bimonthly Christian magazine. More recently, he has authored two books: Integrity of Faith, an autobiography, and Jesus on Trial, a new approach to interpreting the gospel of John. Both books are published by Integrity Books, a subsidiary of Wallace Multimedia Group, LLC.

Wallace began implementation of Wallace Multimedia Group, LLC in 2004. However, encouraged to run for (IL) state senate, he chose to delay launching the company for two years. Dr. Wallace’s campaign drew the attention of news sources and politicians. Over the last three years, he’s been invited to serve on the African American Advisory Board for the Republican National Committee, and is the former Chairman of the African American Republican Council of Illinois. He currently serves as a member of the Outreach Advisory Board for the Illinois GOP, Co-chairman of Cook County Republican Party, Vice President of the Rich Township Republicans, a commissioner on the Illinois Transatlantic Slave Trade Commission and a member of the Village of Matteson zoning and planning Commission.

Dr. Wallace, along with his wife Jennifer, has recently adjusted his ambitions to publish a political magazine, Freedom’s Journal Magazine, which encourages African-Americans to cling to their natural conservative principles that are often ignored when making political choices.

Eric’s introduction into politics came when his mother became the first African American to serve as the US Assistant Secretary of Agriculture in 1978. In the late 80s he campaigned for Maurice Dawkins (R) who ran for Lt. Governor; and later the US Senate seat in Virginia against then Democratic opponent Chuck Robb. Dr. Wallace, inspired by the re-election of George W. Bush and the election of other minorities in the Republican Party, was moved to start the African American Republican Council (AARC) where he served as Chairman for two years. He also served as chaplain for the National Black Republican Association (NBRA).

After a rigorous but unsuccessful (IL) state senate run in 2006, Wallace continued his fight to elect local Republican candidates here in Illinois. In the past year, he volunteered his time and efforts towards the Marty Ozinga, III campaign for Congress in the 14th district, Tony Peraica’s bid for Cook County’s States Attorney, Antoine Members Congressional run in the 1st district, and Nella Piccolin for Will Co. Board. He also featured various candidates for Congress from across the nation in the (Sept./Oct. 08) issue of Freedom’s Journal Magazine.

Consequently, these accomplishments and achievements are the basis of Dr. Wallace’s unique philosophical premise that our cause requires that “we stand for what we say we believe, and that we actively engage in the political process that represents us”.

Eric, a resident of Matteson IL since 2000, is the father of two sons, Eric C. Wallace (22 yrs) who graduated from Chicago’s Columbia College May 09; and Greg M Wallace (20 yrs) who is matriculating at UIC. Wallace wants to serve as US Senator for Illinois to provide (among other things) viable alternatives to people trapped by failed education and social policies, which don’t benefit them. Eric is a reformer, who will work for ethics, fiscal and social reform through Limited government, Individual freedom and responsibility, Free enterprise and Traditional family values (the LIFT principles).

9/12 Candidate: Rosanna Pulido | U.S. Congress 5th District – IL

Posted by Jacob Roecker on July 26, 2009 under 9/12 Candidates | Read the First Comment

About Rosanna (from rosanna2010.com):

Rosanna Pulido is proud of her past accomplishments that include defending and working for:

American workers and their jobs

Senior Citizens and their families

Veterans- Law Enforcement

Pro-Life Pro-Family

Enforcement of our immigration laws

2ND amendment rights

Upholding our Constitution

Rosanna Pulido was born in Chicago in 1956, and was raised on the North Side in Wrigleyville. She was educated in Catholic grammar school and high school and attended Prairie State College.

Rosanna is a small businesswoman and an advocate senior citizens. She produced and hosted Caregivers Radio, a program dedicated to the concerns and needs of senior citizens and their families.

She is also a staunch advocate for our veterans and for those who serve in Law Enforcement.

She has worked extensively with sheriffs across the country in addressing the many problems and dangers created by illegal immigration as it relates to American citizens and our Law Enforcement Officers.

Rosanna loves Chicago, her home, and America, and has a deep concern for what she sees as the ongoing erosion of freedom and constitutional government. Her extensive political involvement has always centered on the protection of the people’s rights, particularly our Second Amendment right to defend ourselves, our families, and the nation.

In April of 2005, as concerned citizens gathered in Arizona to express their dissatisfaction with the federal government’s failure to secure our borders, our national sovereignty, and the rule of law, Rosanna felt compelled to join them. Inspired by this historic citizen activism, she came home to found the Illinois Minutemen organization.

Known for her honesty, Rosanna has earned a reputation as an expert on the effects of illegal immigration, particularly in the area of the loss of jobs and the huge burden it places on taxpayers. She has testified before the Illinois legislature and in May of 2007 was invited to Washington, DC to testify before the House Judiciary Committee. She has been a guest on countless radio and television programs throughout Illinois, and has appeared nationally on shows such as Lou Dobbs, Neil Cavuto, and CNN’s American Morning.

While many people in politics talk about “reform” and fighting corruption, she’s actually done something about it. While she may bear the Republican label, she’s hardly a darling of the leaders of either the Republican or the Democratic parties. Hers is a truly independent conservative voice. When asked to describe the purpose of her political activism in one sentence, she replied, “Let’s give this government back to the people.”

In March 2009 Rosanna Pulido won the Republican nomination for Congress in Illinois’ Fifth District, earning a spot on the ballot to fill Rahm Emanuel’s vacant seat in the special election which was in April. Unfortunately, Ms. Pulido did not win the election in a heavily Democrat district but in keeping with her view that citizens make good legislators, not career politicians, she has promised to continue her fight to champion for term limits and other causes which she supports.
