9/12 Candidate: Doug Hoffmann | U.S. Congress NY 23rd District

This is a great day! New York State’s first 9/12 Candidate has already been attracting attention, and this announcement is the result of him attracting our attention.
Aaron Blake, a contributor for “The Hill” recently wrote: Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman is beginning to look like he might be a force in the upcoming New York special election.
DeRoy Murdock of the “Washington Times” had this to say: Appropriately for a Lake Placid resident, Mr. Hoffman is rather low-key and soft-spoken. However, his voice urgently rises when he addresses the ways in which Washington pins down so many of his clients.
In a recent article in “The Weekly Standard” the magazine chronicles how Doug came to be involved in politics: Something happened to Hoffman as he watched the special election in the neighboring 20th District. To Hoffman, the performance of the candidates perfectly exemplified the failure of national business and political leadership in America. So when Republican chairmen announced they would select someone to run for the McHugh seat, Hoffman declared his candidacy. “If ever there was a time when we need people in Congress who can read a balance sheet, it is now,” says Hoffman. The article continues to illustrate how the GOP nomination fell to someone else.
It seems this third party candidate is being billed as a force to be reckoned with in upstate New York. Now Mr. Hoffman has chosen to stand on the firm footing of these basic American principles and values. 912Candidates.org is pleased to announce that Mr. Hoffman is now a 9/12 Candidate. We’ve also had some initial reports that Mr. Hoffman has been well received by a few of the 9/12 groups in his area. We would certainly encourage these groups to use the “comment” to tell us more about their experience with this candidate.

Doug Hoffman is the managing partner at Dragon Benware Crowley & Co., P.C. (www.dragonbenware.com). Dragon Benware has offices in Lake Placid, Malone, Canton, Massena and Watertown.
Doug has been working with small family owned businesses and high net worth individuals with their estate, tax, business and personal planning for more than 30 years. He is a military veteran who served in the US Army Reserves and National Guard.
He is a CPA who also has been accredited with the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Doug has an Associate Degree in Business Administration from North County Community College, a B.S. degree in accounting from the SUNY at Plattsburgh and a MBA degree from the University of Connecticut. Before starting his own CPA firm, Douglas worked for Price Waterhouse & Co. and was the corporate controller for the Lake Placid 1980 Olympic Winter Games.
He is a member of the NYSSCPA as well as a member with AICPA. He is a partner in Adirondack Asset Management, LLC, a personal financial planning and investment management firm located in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.
He is also a consultant and principal in American Family Business Center, Inc., a network organization dedicated to helping family business owners and members to navigate the complex issues and challenges of succeeding in perpetuating the family business. In this endeavor, Douglas brings his CPA experience as well as the experience of operating thirteen businesses between his wife, three children and his own entities in their family enterprises (Hoffmanfamilyenterprises.com).
Doug also volunteers for many local organizations including:

He is also the Treasurer and Secretary for the Adirondack Medical Center Foundation and a Trustee of his church. He was the President of the North Country Community College Foundation. He was also past Treasurer and Board Member of the Adirondack Economic Development Corp., the Lake Placid 2000 Club, the Lake Placid/Essex County Visitors Bureau and the Adirondack Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Like most people I’ve met since starting this Doug is a welcome addition to our 9/12 Candidates. Like every candidate we expect him to define and describe each principle and value for his constituency.
